WE'RE COMMITTED TO EMPOWERING OUR COMMUNITY & BUILDING DJ'S LEGACY!

The Legacy Begins
Derrick Lamont Berry, Jr., born February 6, 2006, was beloved by his dearest family, Derrick Sr. (father), Sharee Berry (mother), and Tylaa Berry (sister). He was a proud member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Stevie Vance.
He received his formal education in the Magnolia School District where he completed his junior year in high school and was preparing to graduate as a MHS Class of 2024 Honor Graduate! He was so excited about going into his senior year with a goal of being fresh as ever at his high school prom. DJ was a very talented athlete who was an absolute beast when given the opportunity to showcase his skills. He helped lead the MHS Panther Track and Field team to Class 4A District and State Championship Titles. He led both 100M and 200M relay teams to first-place finishes in the Class 4A State Track & Field Championships!

Outside of his athletic achievements, DJ took pride in giving back to his community. He established a work ethic at the Boys & Girls Club of Magnolia, as an umpire for the 8 and Under baseball games and volunteered at Relay for Life. He also worked at the Carter Brothers Saw Mill during his summers.

DJ left an everlasting impression on everyone he encountered. He was a burst of fun, comedic, and a true ray of sunshine and positive energy. There was never a dull moment while one was in his presence. His teachers noted him as being a "great kid" and a joy to have in the classroom. He was very charismatic and respectful. His doting smile would light up the darkest rooms. He was the life of any party, music lover, family, a great friend, and all-around person. Although we are saddened by his devasting departure, we keep his lovely memories in our hearts.

With this scholarship program, we are committed to keeping DJ's name alive and creating a legacy! As we work diligently to grow our scholarship fund, we are accepting generous donations. If you'd like to donate, please feel free to do so. Thank you in advance!
